When the season turns, does OVR drop?
OVR only drops if you're promoted. Here's the end-of-season recalibration — and what never drops.
Short answer: it only drops if you level up. Finish in the top 8 of your League? You're promoted and OVR drops. Finish 9th or lower? OVR stays exactly where it was.
What OVR is
OVR (Overall Quality) is the rating for your squad's average quality, relative to your club level. It's a comparative number, not an absolute one.
Next to it sits Total Quality, which adds up every bit of a player's progress season after season and only ever goes up. Tap the info button next to OVR to see it.
Hold on to the difference: OVR measures how good you are for your level. Total Quality measures how good you are, full stop.
Why it drops
Your manager level rises every time you finish in the top 8 of your League. A new level means a more competitive league, and the bar rises with it: Base Quality falls 20 with every promotion.
Nothing was taken from you. The same player, now measured against better opponents, is worth less in relative terms — a second-division top scorer becomes a bit-part player in the first division without losing a single attribute.
Losing a star follows the same logic: it's a visual parameter of the levelling. Total Quality is not reduced.
What doesn't drop
A player's OVR is made of two parts:
- Base Quality (the stars) — falls 20 on promotion.
- Player Class boost — a permanent bonus on key attributes that stays with the player until retirement.
In other words: whoever invested in Player Class carries the gain into the next level. Whoever only stacked stars starts the climb over from scratch.
What to do about it
A season is 28 days. That's your window to replace the 20 points promotion will charge you. Three practical consequences if you're just starting out:
- Training isn't optional — it's replenishment. With no gains during the season, you reach the new level weaker, in relative terms, than you reached the last one.
- Old players are a trap. They don't keep up as the bar rises. Prefer young players with training headroom — age sets the speed and cost of progress.
- Don't panic on day 1. The red block at the turn is levelling arithmetic — not a bug, not a confiscation.
Summary
- Finished in the top 8: OVR drops (promotion, Base Quality −20).
- Finished 9th or lower: OVR doesn't change.
- Total Quality: never drops.
- Player Class boost: never drops.
